Dental Cleanings

One of the simplest ways to care for your teeth and gums and keep your smile looking bright and healthy is by seeing your dentist for regular dental cleanings. Dental cleanings are like a thorough version of your daily oral hygiene routine. They reach deeper into the parts of your mouth that your toothbrush and tooth floss simply can’t get to.

Services

The Dental Cleaning Procedure

When you come in for your regular dental cleaning procedure, you can expect the following.

Examination of the Teeth and Gums

Your dental hygienist will first inspect your teeth gums for signs of any issues that may need treatment. This includes inflammation, plaque and tartar buildup, and any cavities that may be developing.

Scaling

Next, your dental hygienist will remove plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth using a small hooked tool called a scaler.

Tooth Polishing

After the scaling procedure, your dentist will polish your teeth using a special electric tool and prophylaxis paste, a gritty toothpaste designed to deep clean teeth. Once your teeth polishing is complete,  you’ll have your teeth flossed to remove any remaining plaque.

Fluoride Treatment

You may also receive a fluoride treatment where you’ll be asked to wear a mouthpiece full of fluoride gel that will help protect your teeth.
